The Zoo

We went to the zoo last week. I saw a Reticulated Giraffe sticking its tongue out.

I also saw a Greater Kudu.

I even saw a Grant’s Zebra.

It was foggy almost all day. The sun came out only once.

Wildflowers

The weather has been so wonderful lately, and the wildflowers that the girls planted last year are growing like crazy. This inspired Cadence and Aurora to go outside and take photos.

These flowers were the first to bloom.

I love this photo, the light is really exciting.

Cadence is also getting quite good at framing, I’m really excited about her progress as a photographer.

Light trails

Tonight on the way home I setup my camera to take very long exposures and handed it to Cadence. She began snapping photos through her window and ended up getting some pretty amazing shots.

Like this one taken near Orinda, CA as we passed by a police car.

She quickly learned that she could move the camera to paint with the lights, which she did while taking this photo of the Bay Bridge.

As we neared home, she proclaimed, “I need more colors of light!” while frustratingly observing that most of the lights within view were either head lights and tail lights.

Photo walk

Today we went on a photo-taking walk to the beach.

Cadence has had her camera for a while and was ready to go straight away. Aurora had just been bumped up from her indestructible kid-safe camera to a real camera with about three times as many buttons.

Soon she was snapping photos like a pro.

Like this photo of a white lily she snapped on the way to the beach.

The tide was quite high, as you can see in this picture that Cadence captured as we walked along the water.

Girl and the Coconuts

I created some basic storyboard templates and printed a stack of them for Cadence to use. We’ve been working on an idea for a movie about a girl who, through much trial and error, eventually gets some coconuts down from a very tall tree.

This is the storyboard she drew after working out some details for the story.
